Our Founder

Mr. Claude Leslie Geddes

Mr. Claude Leslie Geddes was born on May 28, 1922. After leaving school, he joined the apprenticeship programme at Transport and Harbours Department, doing Foundry work.. After completing the programme, he remained at Transport and Harbours Department until he attained the position of supervisor. In those colonial days, being a supervisor was a great achievement. However, the dream and vision was to get into the Foundry Business, and not have to work for anyone That vision never left him, and with the help of a good friend Mr. Cecil Wilson, he was able to realize his dream. In 1959, he started a four man Foundry named BRASS ALUMINUM & CAST IRON FOUNDRY under a house in Thomas Street, Kitty, making aluminum pulleys, karahees and tawahs (Roti Pan). After a while, the clientele included with much more jobs of wider variety. The clientele included Transport & Harbours Department, Guyana Electricity Corporation (now Guyana Power & Light), the Bauxite Company and Guyana Sewerage and Water Commission (now Guyana Water Incorporated). The accommodation in Kitty became inadequate and the business was removed to this present location in 1973. Over the years, the business has gone through various phases of expansion. What started as a four man team is now a complex, housing a Pattern Shop, Foundry, Machine and Welding Departments, along with the necessary ancillary services to support these Departments. At present we have sixty one (61) employees and twelve trainees on role. The business was incorporated to a Limited Liability Company in 1982, hence the name Brass, Aluminum and Cast Iron Foundry Limited.
